DERMAL FILLERS

How Dermal Fillers Work

Dermal fillers are a type of cosmetic injectable used to restore volume, smooth lines, and enhance facial contours. When it comes to addressing nasolabial folds and marionette lines, dermal fillers are commonly used to soften the appearance of these facial creases and rejuvenate the overall appearance of the face.

DERMAL FILLERS

Dermal fillers are typically made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps maintain hydration and volume in the skin. When injected into the skin, hyaluronic acid-based fillers attract and retain moisture, plumping up the skin and filling in wrinkles and lines.
Consulation
Before dermal filler treatment, you will need to have a consultation to ensure it is safe to go ahead with the treatment. During the consultation we will discuss your concerns and explore your wishes and I will explain the process. I will ask about your medical history and any medications you take to ascertain if there are any reasons why dermal filler treatment should not be used.
Nasolabial Folds
Nasolabial folds are the lines that run from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth. These folds become more pronounced with age due to the loss of skin elasticity and volume in the cheeks. Dermal fillers can be strategically injected along the nasolabial folds to add volume and plumpness, thereby reducing the depth of the creases and creating a smoother, more youthful appearance.
Marionette Lines
Marionette lines are the vertical lines that extend from the corners of the mouth downward to the chin. These lines can give the appearance of a downturned mouth and contribute to an aged or tired look. Dermal fillers can be used to fill in these lines and provide support to the surrounding tissue, helping to lift the corners of the mouth and restore a more youthful contour to the lower face.

PROCEDURE

During a dermal filler treatment for nasolabial folds and marionette lines I will carefully inject the filler into the targeted areas using a fine needle or cannula. The procedure is relatively quick and generally well-tolerated, with minimal discomfort. Some fillers also contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic, to enhance patient comfort during the injection process.

RESULTS

The results of dermal filler treatments for nasolabial folds and marionette lines are typically immediate, with noticeable improvement in the appearance of the treated areas. Over time, the filler gradually integrates with the surrounding tissue, providing long-lasting enhancement. Depending on the type of filler used and individual metabolism, results can last anywhere from six months to two years or more.
